Minister of Commerce Mehmet Muş stated that the exports in May increased by 65.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 16.5 billion dollars, "With this value, we have reached the second highest May export value of all years." said.

Minister Muş announced the foreign trade figures for May at the press conference he held with the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) at the Ministry Conference Hall.

Stating that the strong performance seen in exports in the first 4 months of this year continued in May, Muş said, "According to GTS data, our exports in May increased by 65.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 16.5 billion dollars. With this value, it is the second highest May of all years. We have reached the export value." he said.

Pointing out that thus, exports in the first 5 months increased by 38.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, to 85.2 billion dollars, "Our annualized export value is 193.3 billion dollars, which is the highest 12-month export to date." used the phrase.

Stating that this year, with the normalization steps, they aim to exceed the 2022 target of 198 billion dollars in the Medium Term Program, and to increase exports to over 200 billion dollars, Muş continued as follows:

"Our imports, on the other hand, increased by 54 percent in May compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 20.6 billion dollars. As another important indicator, the ratio of exports to imports was 82 percent, with an increase of 7.8 points in the January-May 2021 period compared to the same period of the previous year. The ratio of exports to imports rose to 80 percent, with an increase of 5.6 points compared to the same month of the previous year, in May 2021. The increase in the number of export-oriented companies, as well as our export amount, pleases us in terms of expanding exports to the base. The number of companies doing business increased by 12.2 percent to 71 thousand 618.

Noting that the 110 percent increase in exports to Italy, 170 percent to Spain and 90 percent to Poland in May compared to the same month of the previous year, Muş said, "Our exports to European Union countries in May, While it reached 6.8 billion dollars with an increase of 71.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, our exports to these countries constituted 41.3 percent of our total exports. he said.

On the other hand, under the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Muş stated that they continue to increase the share of the Turkish lira in bilateral trade, "While the number of countries with which we made export transactions in Turkish lira in May, 179, the total of our foreign trade in Turkish lira exceeded the level of 13.5 billion liras. " said.

"There are those who are delusional that this growth cannot be real"

Minister Muş stated that, depending on the vaccination process, 2021 is expected to be a year when the effects of the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic will decrease and the economies will get back on track, adding that this year indicates a recovery in the global economy, especially in terms of leading indicators regarding foreign trade.

Noting that despite the positive trend in the indicators, they predict that the impact of the epidemic on the global economy will continue for a while, especially in terms of certain sectors and regions, Muş emphasized that they follow global risks very closely while determining their foreign trade strategy.

Noting that Turkey is one of the rare countries that can close 2020 with growth despite all the negativities brought by the epidemic, Muş made the following assessment:

"The 7% first quarter growth data announced on Monday also clearly shows the momentum gained by our economy. Our net exports of goods and services contributed 1.1 points to this growth. In other words, we see that 15.7 percent of the growth is due to net exports. "This is a pleasing development for our country's economy. Our exports have been an important driving force of our growth. The strong performance of our economy in this regard is pleasing. However, I would like to express with regret that there are people who are uncomfortable with this growth rate instead of being happy."

Noting that there are those who underestimate Turkey's 7% growth under epidemic conditions and those who try to make this success look worthless, Muş used the following statements:

"There are even those who are delusional saying, 'This growth cannot be real.' There are some unfair accusations made against the Turkish economy by making evaluations. We know very well what the intentions of those who make crisis mongers to cause chaos in the country, and those who give a veiled statement to the international press to prevent foreign investors from coming to the country. They do not have a problem with 'this country'. There is no such thing as food, trade, export, investment, employment. We are trying to attract investors to our country by supporting our entrepreneurs and exporters.
